Bud Hedinger

“I owe my life to this technology”

- Bud Hedinger

How do you stop a heart attack before it happens?

A simple, easy-to-experience diagnostic exam using new Philips CT heart scan technology - may help doctors answer that question.

Listen to Florida radio personality Bud Hedinger's story…

A chance encounter with local cardiologist Dr. Ken Kronhaus and his new Philips Brilliance CT may have saved Bud's life.

Opening the door

Hedinger and Kronhaus were no more than passing acquaintances with ties to the same Orlando radio station (Hedinger is host of Bud Hedinger Live! and Kronhaus does a Sunday afternoon nationally syndicated radio show called Heart Talk Live ). “One day I was talking to Bud regarding my effort to get the word out about this cardiac CT technology,” remembers Kronhaus. “He does a popular drive time show. So I thought he could help.”

Hedinger was happy to oblige. “I suggested that the very best endorsements I ever do is when I personally have experience with the product or the service. I agreed to be scanned.”

CT reveals the truth

“So we did a CT coronary angiogram (CTA),” says Kronhaus, “and he had an unmistakable 70-80% blockage in one of the coronary arteries to his heart.”

“I was stunned,” remembers Hedinger. “I'd never had any heart problems of which I was aware - no particular motivation or reason to get any attention. Apparently I was a ticking time bomb.”

The result of the diagnostic procedure allowed Kronhaus to treat Bud appropriately, keeping him from a possible heart attack. Today Bud has good blood flow to the restricted area, is feeling great and is experiencing a sense of renewed energy.

CT Exam guide

Dr. Kronhaus has found that the use of his Brilliance CT can keep many of his patients away from more invasive procedures. “If you see no significant blockage when you do a CT angiography of the coronary arteries, you can be certain that it's 99% accurate*. For a non-invasive test anywhere in medicine, that's a fantastic result.”

Spreading the word

“There is nothing unpleasant about having a CT scan with the Philips unit - it's remarkable.” That's what Bud Hedinger tells his radio listeners. “I tell them how quick and easy and painless it is. And how important it can be.”

Cardiac CT made a profound difference in Bud's life. “I owe my life to this technology, period. And to the fact that through this extraordinary set of circumstances I came to even know about it.”
