For more than 17 years, cardiologist Dr. Ken Kronhaus has dedicated his life to helping his patients fight heart disease and its most devastating form - heart attack. Recently, Dr. Kronhaus installed a new Philips Brilliance 16-slice CT scanner. This new heart scan technology has made a real difference.
Many heart attacks occur in coronary arteries with blockages of 30 to 60% - yet current detection strategies usually do not show arterial blockages until it reaches 70%. Dr. Kronhaus’ effort to offer his patients a non-invasive exam that does an effective job of diagnosing these smaller blockages has been thwarted – until now.
Dr. Kronhaus has found that the use of Cardiac CT can keep many of his patients away from undergoing more invasive procedures. With the Philips Brilliance CT he can do a computed tomography angiogram (CTA) – a procedure that uses X-rays to visualize blood flow in arteries and veins throughout the body.

As the host of the radio show, ‘HeartTalk Live’, Dr. Kronhaus provides guidance on proper heart care. |
“If you see no significant blockage when you do a CTA of the coronary arteries, you can be certain that it’s 99% accurate. For a non-invasive test anywhere in medicine, that’s a fantastic result.”
The benefit to Dr. Kronhaus is that he can identify hard and soft plaque in patients who have less than 70% arterial blockage. Now he has an objective way to determine proper treatment and possibly stop a heart attack.
