November 2007:
Opening up the MRI experience

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an exceptional way to give doctors high quality images of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures.  And there’s no radiation!

However, the closed cylindrical design of traditional MR systems can be restricting for many people.  For young, elderly, overweight or claustrophobic patients, these ‘closed bore’ systems may not be an option.

Now there’s an alternative.  With the new Philips Panorama High-Field Open (HFO) system, patients can lie in a wide-open unconfined space - completely different than a closed bore machine - and doctors still get high quality images.  In this issue we explore the benefits of this sensible design and hear from some people who’ve had the chance to experience it.

Healthcare News: A completely different MR exam

What’s an open MRI?  Why is it different?  Who will like it?  Philips has taken great care to address the concerns of patients and the needs of clinicians in the design of the new Panorama High-Field Open (HFO) system.  Learn all about it.
